About us

Shared challenges call for shared perspectives.

Indonesia’s public challenges rarely fit within a single discipline. Development, technology, governance, social equity, and environmental sustainability are closely connected. Understanding them requires diverse expertise and the perspectives of people affected. Monstera Institute brings together researchers from universities across Indonesia to examine these challenges and advance knowledge-informed policymaking. We connect research, policy, and practice through collaboration across disciplines and university boundaries.

Research helps us understand problems, assess options, and anticipate consequences. Yet public decisions also depend on values, competing priorities, institutional constraints, and political choices. We use research to inform these decisions by making evidence accessible, examining assumptions, and communicating uncertainty. Our aim is to support thoughtful public discussion and policy grounded in knowledge and responsive to people’s needs.

Our network is built through the participation of individual researchers. Their university affiliations do not imply institutional partnerships
